The Bratislava Animation Biennial (BAB) – the International Festival of Child Animation – is an event with a long tradition. Since its inception, it has been a side event of another important cultural event – the Bratislava Illustration Biennial (BIB). International exhibitions of children’s animated films were held in 1985, 1987 and 1989.
In 1991, the show was given the status of an international film festival. Its mission is to enable the artistic examination of children’s animation, to trace its connection with illustration, to create conditions for its evaluation and thus to support the all-round development of this type of cinematic art.
